Early 3D concept artwork of the hive had a similar overall structure, but with fewer beehouses located closer to the hive itself, protected under a small wooden canopy.

Promotional screenshots leading up to the release of Act 2 indicated Zebede Tongva, a beekeeping troll appearing in the Hiveswap Friendship Simulator, would appear at this location. Upon the game's release, however, Zebede was nowhere to be found, leading to the circulation of various unsubstantiated rumors regarding ways to make the character appear.[citation needed]
