Dad fighting imps

RIDICULOUS FOLLY. INEXCUSABLE.

Even though sloppy is fine, it might be a bit of a good idea to arrange this particular page because, to be quite frank, as it is right now, it is just absolute garbage.

A blackout is an event described by The Director to be a time paradox more catastrophic than a scratch, and would result in utter ruin of canon.

Process[]

A blackout is triggered in the same way any doomed offshoot is triggered, the difference being the nature of who caused it. In most instances, deviating from the alpha timeline causes an offshoot, but if the catalyst were to have retcon capabilities and were able to shape the alpha timeline, they could theoretically do so in such a way that prevented them from ever being able to do it in the first place. The mechanics behind what exactly would cause a blackout is rather ambiguous, and can likely be chalked up to weird plot shit.

Trivia[]

  • "Blackout" can also refer to when Rose Lalonde went grimdark, blacking out any viewport that would otherwise be able to view her.
  • MSPA Reader is the only being known to have risked a blackout so far, by preventing John from playing Sburb. It is unknown, however, why John Egbert preventing the events of GAME OVER did not cause a blackout and instead created a new universe for him to travel to, but did not do the same for MSPA Reader.
    • This could be because John had lived to see the outcome of him not retconning everything, but MSPA Reader was alive to witness various events of Homestuck (in Felt Manor), events that would not have happened had they not taken the beta out of John's mailbox.
    • It is also possible that John would have risked a blackout by staying in the GAME OVER timeline instead and that the retcon averted it, much as the MSPA Reader placing the Beta back in the mailbox would have done so, which is far more similar to how normal doomed timelines function.
