The files reveal that Colonel Sassacre was the alias of Mark Twain. In 1873, Twain tricks Frank, and Jesse James during a train robbery and steals all of their loot, leaving behind a card with his name on it. While the Condesce is furious with the James brothers' incompetence, she seems intrigued by Twain's card and puts it away for later. He eventually forms a platonic partnership with the Condesce while under the alias Betty Crocker in 1881, assisting her with her schemes while she helps boost his career and fame. However, over time he becomes corrupted by her and develops a drinking problem as well as (upon her orders) a fake reputation as an intellectual.
In 1889, the Condesce puts him in charge as a figurehead founder of Skaianet. He ends up establishing the Distinguished Gentleman's League of Intellectuals and Luminaries in Europe to recruit others into the charade, eventually encountering Albert Einstein in 1895 and mentoring him, despite being him being a slow learner. Twain eventually discovers Harry Houdini's performances and sabotage towards the Crocker and Skaianet empire in 1896 and alerts the Condesce. Twain then assigns Einstein to tail him throughout Europe and infiltrate Karno's Army.
In 1903, Twain decomissions Einstein as an undercover operative and sends him to work in Skaianet's patent offices in Europe. In 1910, Twain finds a girl at the bottom of a meteor crater, and brings her back to the manor. Eight days later, he investigates another meteor crater with a boy inside wielding two flintlock pistols, who shoots Twain through the heart, killing him.
Post-scratch, largely the same events reoccur.
