Various foods and drinks appear throughout MS Paint Adventures.
In Problem Sleuth[]
Liquor is a common item in Problem Sleuth. Alcohol provides a large boost in Imagination, and is found in a variety of shapes, sizes and potency. Its primary use is to allow characters to enter the imaginary universe by imbibing liquor and then entering their Fort.
Problem Sleuth is the only character known so far to suffer from hangovers. While under the status of a hangover, Problem Sleuth's Imagination lowers, but its maximum level remains the same. His Vim however, takes a hit from the loss of steadiness. Hangovers can be removed by drinking coffee, particularly cold coffee, which also may restore some Vim, correcting him to his pre-Hungover state.
- Problem Sleuth had a Flask of Whiskey hidden under the desk in his office.
- Ace Dick had a Cruet of Brandy stashed under the desk in his office as well.
- Pickle Inspector had a bottle of Illicit Moonshine in his office. The bottle was too big to fit under his desk.
- AD brewed up some Candy Corn Liquor in the still room. This liquor was so potent it granted Pickle Inspector god-like powers in the imaginary universe.
- Mobster Kingpin, being diabetic, exclusively drinks Sugar Free Candy Liquor. It was potent enough to grant him demon-like powers in the imaginary universe.
- Potent Grain Alcohol fuels Ace Dick's Generator which, in turn, powers his window.
- Hatless Man had a bottle of Ink of Squid Pro Quo, but Hysterical Dame swatted it away from him. Problem Sleuth then picked it up and used it to complete his Tectrixcalibur for Sepulchritude, using the ink as a scabbard.
Liquors are used to increase the imagination gauge[citation needed]; candy liquors also existed, however, which boosted the stat to an even greater extent. While Mobster Kingpin's diabetes necessitated that his be “SUGAR FREE”, a powerful kind could also be brewed from candy corn capable of maxing out even the all-imaginative Pickle Inspector's gauge.
In Homestuck[]
Alcohol[]
Rose Lalonde's mother is a very heavy drinker and is never seen without a martini in her hand. Rose can tell when her mother is around by the ubiquitous presence of liquor bottles. Rose later finds that her mother has left her martini glass behind when Rose arrived at the Land of Light and Rain, and decides to sip it thoughtfully, immediately spitting it all out, and alchemizes a bottle of Magnetic Wodka that is never drank. Post-scratch, Roxy Lalonde has a similar drinking problem, even her fetch modus relating to bottles; she quits after entering Sburb, but relapses after entering Trickster Mode.
Two years into travelling through the void, Rose takes a taste of liquour - due to nervousness for her rendezvous with Kanaya Maryam. Though it causes her to miss the official start, it somehow becomes a date, they kiss, and Rose falls down the stairs. In Act 6 Intermission 5, during a talk with Karkat about Terezi, Dave mentions Rose, suggesting that she became an alcoholic after the incident. Rose later admits to this and attempts to form a support group with Terezi to work on their similar problems.
Ecto-cooler[]
Ecto-cooler is mentioned in the commercial that plays as John is leaving his house for the first time, and is related to John's fascination with Ghostbusters.
Faygo[]
Faygo is a soft drink available both on Alternia and on Earth. The drink is a noted as a favorite of Gamzee Makara, who consumes it as part of his cult's rituals. The consumption of it is referred to as "kicking the wicked elixir" or "rude elixir". Through a fetch modus mishap with his Miracle Modus, a bottle is accidentally launched far across the ocean, washing up on Eridan Ampora's island hive, much to his disgust.
Later, while in the midst of emotional theatrics, Eridan is advised by Gamzee to kick back and get his zone on with a cold bottle of Faygo. He indulges Gamzee, and his reaction to the taste of the sugary swill is indifferent.
In human society, Faygo is a sugary soft drink manufactured in Detroit, Michigan and made popular outside its distribution area by the musical group Insane Clown Posse, and a staple of juggalo subculture, on which Gamzee is based.
In the post-scratch universe, the Posse became Presidents of the United States thanks to the manipulations of the Condesce, and one of their actions in office was to replace all tap water with Faygo. Not surprisingly, this made type 2 diabetes so common that having it was considered the national pastime.
After Terezi forms a kismesissitude with Gamzee she also begins drinking Faygo, which she quickly becomes addicted to. It is discovered she finds it distasteful after Karkat finds her passed out in a puddle of it surrounded by multiple empty bottles. Although she enjoyed it at first because of the good taste of its bright colors, it began to grow tasteless as she became more and more addicted to it.
Two types of Faygo have been seen in Homestuck, Redpop and Grape.
TaB[]
TaB is a diet cola soft drink ostensibly produced by the Coca-Cola Company. The troll equivalent of TaB is sometimes called the Alternian Soft Drink, and sometimes features Tavros-like horns on the sides. It was invented by the Condesce to take over the purple caste's Faygo monopoly on the soft drink market. Though the drink contained no sugar whatsoever, billions sold to unknowing lowbloods - a fact that Meenah would have taken great pride in if she heard the story when finding it in a dream bubble chest. Feferi Peixes tries to drink a can, but, being underwater, fails with a GLUB.
The Condesce is later seen with what appears to be an Earth version of TaB on her desk on Derse.
The Wayward Vagabond finds a large stash of the beverage stored in the second cabinet in the Skyship Base (which is, appropriately, opened by pressing the "tab" button on the keyboard). Though he seems very excited to find it, as is John after finding a can in one of the Land of Wind and Shade's mailboxes, the drink serves little nutritional purpose and would do little to quell the Vagabond's hunger.[citation needed]
The cans of TaB, both empty and full, were naturalized into Can Town's growing population, which, being the egalitarian, civil society that it is, doesn't discriminate against cans based on their contents or their lack of such. In the Can Town game of industrial expansion/chess, the TaB cans served as pawns for both sides.
A noble can of TaB risked its life to aid PM in delivering her package, serving as a... distaction. It is unknown if it survived. WV later uses the drink to defuse the situation involving PM and AR. AR deems the drink too warm, and sets off to the Frog Temple to cool the beverage down in Jade Harley's abandoned refrigerator.
Other soda[]
Dirk Strider also seems to have quite a collection of orange soda, some of which has made its way into his Sylladex. His sylladex features the brands: Minute Maid, Faygo, Crush, Fanta, Mountain Dew, Sunkist, Orangette, and Slice. Minute maid has a selection of different flavors/beverages, though Dirk has only been seen drinking Orange and Apple flavors.
Coffee[]
Dad Egbert and Draconian Dignitary have been seen drinking coffee, as well as the residents of the Veil Meteor, albeit a very disgusting variety from a broken machine, that quickly accumulates an even more disgusting film over the surface.
Apple juice[]
- Main article: Apple juice
Dave Strider is quite a fan of apple juice despite John pointing out its similar appearance to pee. Later on the Veil meteor, he asks Rose to create more apple juice for him to drink but she can't because they don't have any apples and she can't figure out how to alchemically combine anything to create something as ideologically indivisible as apples.
Milk[]
Equius Zahhak is rather fond of milk, though must be aided in order to drink it, as he tends to destroy the glass that holds it with his phenomenal and poorly-controlled strength. Andrew Hussie has also been seen with a glass, as well as unsuccessfully attempting to feed it to Spades Slick via a bottle while nursing him back to health. However, it should be noted that these instances of milk have originated not from cows or even goats, but from Aurthour, Equius's Lusus. Various trolls, including Terezi and Mindfang have also referred to Doc Scratch using milk as a descriptor for his way of speaking, suggesting the use of milk may be more widespread than has been seen.
