Fin is the fifth member of the Felt.
Concept and creation[]
Fin's hat is designed after the orange billiard ball numbered 5. His name, fin, is an archaic nickname for a United States five-dollar bill, from the Yiddish word finef (פֿינעף) meaning five.[1] It also alludes to a shark's fin and Fin's shark-like appearance, with a pointed "snout" and sharp protruding teeth; like Trace, Fin's appearance matches his powers, which are similar to a shark's ability to track prey, and may allude to the concept of a pool shark.
Fin being French for 'end' or 'finish', from Latin finis, may also reference his prognostic abilities.
Biography[]
Caliborn's session[]
Fin's planet of origin, colored like an orange billiard ball and formed when the Battlefield in Caliborn's session exploded, was covered in shark-inhabited waters. Caliborn was awarded Fin as his fifth follower when he destroyed the planet by sending it into the black hole formed by the Battlefield's death.
On Alternia[]
Fin has a habit of scooping crimes planned by the Midnight Crew by following their future trails, much to Spades' chagrin.[citation needed]
Intermission - original timeline[]
Because Fin leaves evidence of his past whereabouts and actions, Diamonds Droog was able to harm Fin from the future[citation needed]. Fin died of blood loss resulting from the injuries inflicted by Diamonds Droog.[citation needed]
Act 6[]
Skills and abilities[]
Fin's ability is to see where people will be and what they will do into the future by following their orange future trail;[citation needed] he forms a pair with Trace, who is instead able to see and interact with past trails.
When Fin follows someone's future trail, it is possible for that future trail to interact with him, even as far as attacking him[citation needed], essentially allowing others to attack him from the future.
The future trails Fin follows bear a notable resemblance to the future trails from the 2001 film Donnie Darko, and Andrew Hussie has suggested that he was inspired by the film.[citation needed]
Weapons and paraphernalia[]
As seen in Collide, Fin employs a Gamo r77 revolver as a ranged weapon and a fish bat for more close quarters combat. While the fish bat alludes to his aquatic appearance, the way in which his revolver connects to his themes is unknown.[2]
