So any of you who edit on any other wiki whatsoever are probably familiar with the concept of the featured image, since it's a pretty common... um, feature. I've mused on having it on this wiki on and off for a while now, and the other day, Light brought it up on IRC. So here we are. Light's idea was sort of "featured fanart", where we'd open up submissions on the blog or something, and pick the one we like best. He can probably explain his idea better than I can, so I'll leave it to him to elaborate. I was thinking more just a normal FI, where a wiki image is chosen.
A reasonable timescale for FI updates would typically be less than that for featured articles; weekly isn't uncommon. Which gave me a nice little idea – alternate weeks. On one week, a new featured image goes up. On the next, a new featured fanart. The result is weekly updates between them, but each has an individual fortnightly update schedule. I'd probably be in charge of the FI and Light in charge of the FF, though obviously we wouldn't be dictators on that. Though that said, neither would we be likely to set up a whole vote system like for featured articles, because farmin' all this goddamn input is a fuckin' pain in the ass. The FI at least would certainly be open to suggestions from users, and obviously, as mentioned, the selection from which the FF is chosen would be pretty democratic by virtue of being generated by the masses.

- Yeah there really was nothing more to say on the fan art idea, basically I considered that most wikis already do the featured image thing, but felt that for us it might be a little redundant given that most images = 1 single page, and that a feature image might devolve into a "featured page" which might be a bit silly. Hence the idea of featured fan art as an alternative, plus the added bonus of being good community outreach.
- Basically the idea is as SN said, we open up submissions on the blog, people submit their images (must be their own creation of course), we select the images.
