- For his similarly named adoptive niece/genetic half-sister, see Jade Harley.
Jude Harley is a playable character in the video game Hiveswap, and the younger brother of Joey Claire. He owns a squad of carrier pigeons called The Lone Gunbirds.
Concept and creation[]
In early iterations of the game's dialogue, Jude's spoke in all lowercase with more correct grammar, likely changed to distinguish it Joey's.[citation needed] Jude's symbol was also more of a yellow-green color during development,[citation needed] more closely matching his text; in the released game, Jude and Joey's text colors are swapped, much like those of their Homestuck relatives John Egbert and Jade Harley, though Joey's symbol is not close in color to Jude's text.
Etymology[]
Like his sister Joey, Jude has a unisex name, of Hebrew origin meaning "praise".[citation needed] It is popularly associated with the Beatles song 'Hey, Jude', referenced in the achievement awarded for playing as Jude, "NA NA NA NA, HEY YOU".
Biography[]
Jude lives at Harley Manor on the outskirts of the town of Hauntswitch on B1 Earth. Evidenced by the blueprints kept in his treehouse,[citation needed] Jude has been seeing to the strange device in the Manor's attic, which he understands is a portal[citation needed] and believes to be tied to a mysterious cult living next door but otherwise does not know the function of.[citation needed]
In 1994, 14 and a half years prior to the beginning of Homestuck, Jude is playing outside with Joey and their dog Tesseract when monsters attack the Manor. Jude locks himself in his treehouse, from which he assists Joey on her way to the attic by way of flares and carrier pigeons.
Personality and traits[]
This page is in need of citations and sources for its information. You can help MS Paint Adventures Wiki by finding suitable sources and adding citations for them.
Jude is neurotic and conspiratorial, with an enthusiasm for tabloid stories about aliens and a Mysterious Cult which seems to have genuinely settled into the neighboring mansion.[citation needed] He is a dependable strategist with a keen interest in security and avoidance tactics,[citation needed] which can lead him to be overly cautious[citation needed] and extremely reactive to sudden unexpected noise.[citation needed] He can be extremely literal and have a hard time understanding Joey's sarcasm,[citation needed] but remains a goofy and clumsy child and is not above pestering and pranking his sister.[citation needed]
Jude is a fan of The X-Files; his favorite character is Fox Mulder, but he is willing to compromise for Scully for his sister.[citation needed] Like his sister, he has an affinity for animals, keeping three pigeons - named for the X-Files' Lone Gunmen - and a large white python.[citation needed] He is also a fan of Enya's music,[citation needed] which can be heard playing from the Manor's cassette player (despite its lack of batteries[citation needed]) when combined with the key to the portal.[citation needed]
Relationships[]
Joey Claire[]
Jude's strongest relationship is with his elder sister. Jude often makes an effort to annoy Joey and Joey is in turn often annoyed at Jude's interests. Joey is somewhat frustrated at Jude's clueless self-assurance when she's not always able to stay confident in herself. Despite this, Jude shows himself to be a caring brother who constantly worries for his sister's safety. The two are able to get along and work together well enough in the event of a crisis. Joey often interacts with Jude's online friends.
Jake Harley[]
Not much is known about Jude's relationships with his absent father, though his choosing to keep the Harley surname suggests less negative feelings than between Joey and their Pa. Jude shares in his father's interest in the strange and mysterious.
A. Claire[]
Jude's relationship with his deceased mother is not elaborated on much, but he clearly misses her. The lack of photos with both Jude and his mother might indicate that she passed away during, or shortly after Jude's birth.
Roxy Lalonde[]
Not much has been said about Jude's relationship with his and Joey's babysitter, but it is implied he at least considers her to be rational and dependable adult, and capable in combat.
The Lone Gunbirds[]
Jude has three trained pigeons, named Frohike, Langly, and Byers. Prior to the events of the game, he favors Frohike, likes Langly, and is disappointed by Byers. After Frohike's unfortunate demise at the hands of the monster vanguard, and Langly's cowardice and betrayal, he finds that Byers is incredibly lucky and actually okay at his job as carrier pigeon.
Other friends[]
Jude has been mentioned to have a circle of friends he interacts with on the internet. Apparently Joey also interacts with them on occasion. He plans to call for their help to deal with the monster invasion in his home.

Trivia[]
- Many fans have noticed that he shares a similar resemblance to Jake English and Roxy Lalonde's child
(which Jake ends up eating
) in the shipping parody artwork within the Homestuck webcomic. - His old name possibly could of been Jess (Jesse) based on Andrew Hussie’s concept art, and was going to be Joey’s stepbro.
- Jess was also going to show possible love interest in Joey despite being step siblings, where Hussie wrote “(crush on her?)” on Joey’s info about Jess.
