Lanque Bombyx is jade blooded troll living on Alternia during the time of Joey Claire's visit.
His sign is Virsci, sign of the Alchemist, which has a Prospit sway and is bound to the Life aspect - the only Life-bound sign to appear on a named troll in Hiveswap.
Concept and creation[]
He was character designed by ctset. Lanque and Daraya Jonjet were the only two trolls whose leaked unfinished Troll Call cards referred to them by their first names, rather than by a title or nickname.
Lanque was first revealed during the Hiveswap Troll Call event alongside Remele Namaaq on March 14th, 2018. His bullet points were "Still has a livechurnal", "Fang game on point", and "And, of course, he craves eternal life". His bullet points were altered from December 6, 2018 to "Sharp fashion, sharper tongue", "Occasional poet" and "Emotional vampire".
Lanque's quirk may reference the Eastern European accent - in which the letters V and W sound the same - commonly attributed to vampires in pop culture; the letters V and W also resemble a vampire's fangs in shape.
Etymology[]
His first name could be derived from the word "langue" ("language" or "tongue" in French), or from the word "calanque", a cove or inlet on the Mediterranean coast of France. The Chinese word 揽雀 (Lǎnquè) is translated to 'Sparrow'. His last name is derived from Bombyx mori, the scientific name for silkworms, meaning 'silk' in itself.
Biography[]
Lanque appears in Hiveswap: Act 2 as a minor character. His personality in Act 2 appears to be closer to his NSFW route in which he is very rude and stand-offish, but with a much less flirtatious demeanor. He makes rude comments at various points in the case, and is found out to be the true culprit for the book theft in one Bad Ending. When spoken to before the case, he rudely tells Joey and Xefros to leave him alone.
If Joey figures out he is the culprit, she's pulled outside by Lanque, who wishes to discuss it "privately". Joey hypothesizes what his motivations were– that he was desperate to escape from what he sees as a doomed life as a cloistered jade, and wanted to destabilize the cloister as much as possible so that he could create a distraction and run away throughout all the chaos. He tells her that she's more or less correct, but her exposing him would understandably throw a wrench in his plans– and throws her off of the moving train, resulting in a Game Over. If the "true" ending of the trial goes ahead, in which Lynera is found guilty, Tyzias will reflect later upon the way "the true culprit effortlessly navigated the social battlefield" and "led them all like [sheep]", and refuses to reveal the culprit's identity to Joey out of respect. This builds upon the previous indications of his desire to escape his life as a cloistered jade blood, seizing the opportunity for a permanent escape at seemingly any cost.
Relationships[]
Daraya Jonjet[]
While they don't consider each other to be close friends, Lanque and Daraya Jonjet seem to tolerate each other the most compared to the others in their cloister as they both share a strong disfavor about their position being cloistered jades. During the trial, though they are often seen bickering with one another, the two seem to often agree with each other at many points in the case.
Lynera Skalbi[]
Lanque is very hostile towards Lynera as he frequently insults her, presumably because she constantly narcs on him and disapproves of his lifestyle. To his dismay, he and Lynera were assigned as "accountability buddies" by both Bronya and and Lynera and were forced to hold hands before boarding the train.
Bronya Ursama[]
Bronya seems to care about Lanque, or at least the jades in her cloister as a whole, but may often dismiss him (whether or not that is on purpose or an accident) as she refers to her jades as "her girls," much to his annoyance. However, she seems to have difficulty with him as she dislikes his mean-spirited attitude.
Actias[]
Actias is a male jadeblood and a member of HATCHED2DANCE. It is mentioned during the Trial that Lanque knows Actias to some degree, but doesn't seem to be fond of him. Lanque becomes especially irritable when people try to bring up HATCHED2DANCE around him and compare him to Actias, as it seems Actias is one of the very few known male jadebloods in existence.

Trivia[]
- Though Act 2 speaks on the existence of many male jade bloods, Lanque is the first named male jade blooded character; Cohen Edenfield and Phil Gibson, both formerly of What Pumpkin Studios, have referred to him as transgender.[2][3]
- Lanque's Troll Call card is the only one to be missing the second frame around the box containing bullet points.
