Matchsticks is the eleventh member of the Felt.
Concept and creation[]
Matchsticks' hat is designed after the red-striped billiard ball numbered 11. The two digits on Matchstick's hat could be likened to a pair of matchsticks, or even two 'matching sticks'; hence his name. Perhaps coincidentally, the word 'matchsticks' also has 11 letters. Matchsticks, as fire-creating implements, also relate to Matchsticks' specific skillset.
Biography[]
Caliborn's session[]
Matchsticks originated on a planet colored like a red-striped billiard ball, formed when the Battlefield in Caliborn's session exploded. Alongside the planets associated with Crowbar and Quarters, however, his planet was not able to escape the event horizon of the black hole formed by the Battlefield's destruction, and the three fell inside before Caliborn's game could properly begin. As such, Matchsticks joined Caliborn as a follower alongside Sawbuck after the blue-striped tenth planet was destroyed.
Intermission[]
Matchsticks again found himself defeated before Spades Slick's assault on the Felt mansion began, alongside Crowbar and Quarters.
Act 5[]
Matchsticks from the past appeared in Doc Scratch's room after Spades Slick set fire to it, perhaps also being responsible for Clover's sudden appearance soon afterward. After putting the fire out, Spades Slick killed him with the crowbar, explaining how he was already dead before the intermission. Doc Scratch later teleports his corpse away.
Act 6[]
Slick summons Matchsticks along with the rest of of the Felt using Die's voodoo doll, and he follows Slick through the remains of Doc Scratch's apartment to the exit in the form of a magic timepiece. The the Felt - including Ms. Paint and the centaur butler - pile into Biscuits' oven to be dragged into the Alpha kids' session.
Slick drops the Felt off on the Land of Mounds and Xenon to collide with Jake English. Matchsticks bashes Jake with his iconic fire extinguisher but alongside Trace fails to shoot him, and ultimately ends up pigging out on Nannasprite's cookies with the rest of them.[image?] With the help of Nannasprite and the young Jane Crocker, Jake eventually defeats the leprechauns.
Skills and abilities[]
Matchsticks has the ability to travel through time using fires as a gateway.[1]
Weapons and paraphernalia[]
To prevent temporal duplicates of himself from following him through the flames, Matchsticks carries around a fire extinguisher to put out a fire after he emerges from it. As seen in Collide, he will also use this extinguisher as a bludgeoning weapon in close quarters; for ranged combat he employs a Walther PPK, an ironically small gun for one of the Felt's larger members.[1]
