Meulin Leijon is an olive blooded troll who lived on Beforus shortly before she and the rest of her session caused the Reckoning.[1]
She is the Mage of Heart and the dancestor of Nepeta Leijon.
Concept and creation[]
Meulin and Kurloz “just sign memes to each other all day while stoned”, and “[it] is implied that they smoke catnip together, as if it were marijuana, which is an especially amusing notion to people who like drugs.” Her demeanor and manner of speech parody the online fan girl subculture and their interest in shipping, particularly as represented on the Tumblr microblogging platform - as demonstrated by her liberal use of animated GIFs in the vein of reaction images and of archetypical "fangirl" vernacular regarding her F33LS[2] and her favorite GAY BABIES[3] - which was home to much of Homestuck's fandom at the time of her conception.[citation needed] This behaviour further exaggerates Nepeta's satirical traits, and satirizes the fandom's own perceptions of Nepeta as a character.[citation needed]
Meulin's deafness may reference the historical monk credited as the first teacher of speech and hand language for the deaf, named Pedro Ponce de León. Alongside the mute Kurloz Makara and the idealistic Mituna Captor, Meulin could also be seen as one of the proverbial three wise monkeys who "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil".
Meulin borrows her title of Mage from the Beta troll Sollux Captor; this forms part of a chain of class swaps, with the A1 session having a Mage of Heart, Heir of Doom, Page of Void and Rogue of Breath, while the post-scratch session has a Mage of Doom, Heir of Void, Page of Breath and Rogue of Heart.
Etymology[]
Meulin was a name was suggested by McBatman for Nepeta. It is the name of a small town in Burgundy, France, and sounds similar to "mewling", a sound made by cats. It could also be thought of as similar to the name of Merlin, a famous mythical Mage.

- “The Mage of Heart as you know is an ardent disciple of the romantic sciences. She has a well earned reputation as a miracle worker when it comes to match making. But her own romantic history ironically has been riddled with trou8le and heart8reak. Once, well 8efore our session 8egan, she and Kurloz were in a very loving matespritship. It really seemed to everyone they were made for each other. One day, they fell asleep together. Kurloz then had a nightmare so terrifying, he released the most dreadful sound imaginable. It truly echoed the horror of the Vast Honk itself. The noise was so loud and so awful, Meulin went completely deaf, and her hearing never recovered. Kurloz was undou8tedly devastated by what he'd done to her. He was so distraught, he sewed his mouth shut and has never spoken a word since. Though they have drifted apart as matesprits, Meulin never held it against him, and even seemed to take delight in learning new ways to communicate. They continued to remain very close to this day. ... It's clear that her sympathies have been gradually swayed in support of the High8lood's cult.”
Meulin spent some time journeying through a land of large lily pads, and found rare treasure there.[4]

Meulin located the cod piece for Gamzee Makara's counterfeit Bard of Rage costume, which Kurloz had her pass on to him.[citation needed]
Personality and traits[]
Meulin shares many traits with her dancestor Nepeta, both being excitable young women with an avid interest in romantic speculation. Meulin has a specific knack for red romance, while Kurloz ADVISES ON[5] the blacker quadrants; fittingly, Karkat Vantas' heart key was located near her, and the spade key near the purple blood.
Being deaf, Meulin often uses sign language and mimes to express her thoughts. This is most common in her conversations with Kurloz Makara, who is mute and also speaks in mime.
Vriska Serket observed that “she has a fascin8tingly dark history which her memories always seem to hint at.”

Relationships[]
Horuss Zahhak[]
While Meulin and Horuss are fairly loving towards one another, their relationship is far from perfect. Horuss often has trouble understanding Meulin's mimes. Meulin actively teaches Horuss to suppress his anger and other negative emotions at all times and substitute it for a happier attitude instead. He smiles a lot because of what Meulin taught him about emotions, even when it's physically painful for him. However, he doesn't seem resentful of Meulin whatsoever.
Kurloz Makara[]
Meulin and Kurloz were matesprits until his accident, though she bears no resentments towards Kurloz over the loss of her hearing. She is seemingly oblivious to his more sinister intentions, thanks to Kurloz's secretive nature and the hypnotic powers of his chucklevoodoos, which cause her to feel REALLY FOGGY[6] after many conversations with him.
Her religious association with him mirrors the story of her Alternian counterpart, who was the closest Disciple to another spiritual figure, the Signless.
Meulin called him Kurzorz, which may be a reference to slang used by computer nerds and MMORPG players. It may also be a reference to the Japanese emoticon, orz, representing a kneeling, bowing, or comically fallen over person.

- While inspired by American Sign Language, the artist of Meulin and Kurloz's Openbound talksprites said that the conversations they have via sign are meaningless.
