The Plot Point, or simply The Point, is “the location [under Earth C] which corresponds to the ”black hole“'s singUlarity”. The name is also loosely applied to the machine “stabilizing” The Plot Point, developed by Roxy Lalonde and Calliope to make use of the singularity's power.

Concept and creation

The Plot Point features in Andrew Hussie's original outline for Homestuck: Beyond Canon, described as "specifically made of cherub technology, similar to the one famously seen in Hiveswap."

Description

Just as Volume: Candy's entire universe is contained within a black hole, the singularity of this black hole contains its own smaller, more condensed reality. The Plot Point contains its own versions of characters such as Tavros Nitram and Aradia Megido, who lived different lives in Homestuck's reality - however The Point's reality is also fluid in certain ways, containing figures who are amalgamations of characters from the primary reality such as Vriska Serket's lusus and ancestor. While it apparently contains a version of Alternia, including both Vriska and Tavros's hives, its backdrop can also become other areas relevant to Vriska's journey such as the Land of Maps and Treasure and Doc Scratch's parlor.

Time within The Point is also fluid according to Vriska's quest; while she grows as a person the timeline will travel forward, but when she reverts into old behaviors time loops around, the whole timeline resetting while Vriska keeps the years and knowledge she accrued in previous loops.

History

At some point after Universe C's creation, a “critical moment” allowed the universe's Candy volume to fall into the same black hole which swallowed the . The singularity at the very center of that black hole, which Roxy and Calliope began referring to as “the plot point”, happened to occupy a space within the trolls' meteor which had arrived on the planet thousands of years earlier.

The two scientists discovered the singularity alongside an existing “rUined jUjU arch” and stabilized the two with “sUper cool cherUbic-lalondian tech”. To escape the confines of the black hole, Roxy and Calliope planned to “create an event of sUch catalcysmic proportions [...] that it becomes ontologically impossible for anyone to ignore”, for which purpose they need “an individUal of sUfficient narrative cloUt” such as Vriska Serket. Though Calliope's plans for what this event might entail are not concrete, Vriska characteristically takes the initiative of entering the singularity regardless, hoping to Figure shit out [her]self.

Following John Egbert's introduction to this plan, Jane Crocker's surveillance division become aware of what she deems to be “some kind of super weapon”, and her footsoldiers are quickly mobilized in order to “get to ”“The Point”“!!” In the event that she cannot seize the weapon from the rebels, she instead plans to use a weapon of her own - a giant laser built by the Felt on the Moon - to destroy it.
