Rings of Life and Void

The Rings of Life and Void are two legendary ringsHS that make appearances throughout multiple fables and myths, each time being referred to by different names. They are simple gold bands, less powerful than a fully-prototyped Queen's Ring and far more obscure. According to myth, whenever one of the rings goes missing, the other will be miraculously found.

Ring of Life

First seen when Hussie proposed to VriskaHS, the Ring of Life is apparently capable of bringing back to life any ghost who wears it. Hussie loses it when Vriska punches himHS, and it is later seenHS with Tavros Nitram. He and John Egbert proceed to fight for some time over it, before Meenah Peixes throws her trident at JohnHS and he wakes up with the ring in handHS. The last time it is seen is on the couch next to a sleeping John in the Prospitian battleship as he begins to disappearHS and proceed to appear throughout various times and locations in the game. However, when he later goes to retrieve it, the ring has gone missingHS. The ring is later foundHS to be in Gamzee's possession, as he sleeps in Dave's fridge on the Prospitian Battleship.

Ring of Void

Carries the power to turn its wearer invisible, and also apparentlyHS intangible, an ability that is confirmedHS to be a power of the ring itself. Her Imperious Condescension dethroned the Black Queen of the B2 session before the players entered The Medium and obtained this ring from her; the Condesce is unable to use the ring herself, but nonetheless kept it. Later on, the Courtyard Droll gives this ring to Roxy Lalonde, who escapes from jail with it. She later uses it to try to propose to Dirk Strider while she is in Trickster Mode.  She lostHS this ring before trickster mode wears off.  There is a question of the role of the White Queen's ring, if the Black Queen's ring is the Ring of Void.

It is possible that the Black Queen's ring was only the Ring of Void because B2 is a void session - the Ring of Void clearly behaves like a Queen's ring in addition to its void powers, because Diamonds Droog was able to use the ring to cause the Red Miles.

Trivia

  • Similar to how the Queen's Rings heavily reference the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Rings of Life and Void themselves seem to be a reference to a quote spoken by Sauron to Frodo while he wears the One Ring: “There is no life in the void, only death.”
  • The Rings can be thought to mirror Roxy and Jane; the Ring of Void originating from Derse where Roxy, a hero of Void, dreams. Meanwhile the female dreamer of the session for Derse's counterpart, Prospit, is Jane, a hero of Life.
