- For the pre-scratch version of this character, see Rufioh Nitram.
The Summoner was the ancestor of Tavros Nitram. An unusual troll, he had “rare a8ilities of” communion, and at some point either grew or revealed a large pair of wings.
Concept and creation[]
The Summoner's appearance and role are heavily inspired by the Rufio character from the 1991 Peter Pan adaptation Hook.
Biography[]
Landing on Alternia “many sweeps” after Mindfang's incident with Redglare and her lusus, Mindfang's magic cue ball predicted that he would rise quickly through the ranks of cavalreapers and use his wings to inspire a rebellion amongst his army at least the size of a prior “sectarian revolt”. He was to become Mindfang's matesprit centuries after she received her predictions, but would also ultimately be the one to kill her (mirroring their descendants Vriska and Tavros' later and similarly complicated relationship).
Though his exact deeds during the rebellion and the nature of his death are both unknown, the Summoner's rebellion is credited as having been the inspiration for the Condesce's decision to banish all adult trolls from Alternia, hoping to prevent a similar uprising in the future. This led to Alternia becoming a planet inhabited only by children, much like the mythical Neverland of J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan, which also features a pirate character lacking one eye and one hand. Alternia's Pupa Pan similarly reflects these themes and as such may be inspired by the Summoner's story.
Trivia[]
The Summoner's being a red-haired bull-like character with wings could be taken as a reference to the slogan of the "Red Bull" energy drink.
