Sawbuck is the tenth member of the Felt.

Concept and creation[]

Sawbuck's hat is designed after the blue-striped billiard ball numbered 10, and his name comes from sawbuck, a nickname given to a 10-dollar bill in the United States thanks to the presence of the Roman numeral for 10, X, appearing on Civil War-era bills; the letter X is said to resemble a sawbuck.[1] A sawbuck is a structure intended to undergo heavy wear and tear as it is used to support wood for cutting into pieces; this may be a reference to Sawbuck's human shield-like powers.

Biography[]

Caliborn's session[]

Sawbuck originated on a planet colored like a blue-striped billiard ball, formed when the Battlefield in Caliborn's session exploded. Caliborn was awarded Sawbuck as his tenth follower when he destroyed the planet by sending it into the black hole formed by the Battlefield's death.

Intermission[]

After Spades Slick goofed off with Die's voodoo doll, he ended up warping to a timeline where he and his crew were having a shootout with Crowbar, Stitch and Sawbuck. And after getting an eye gouging from Snowman's lance, Slick decided to throw said lance at Sawbuck, warping them both to before the shootout even started, Slick then stabbed Stitch to death and threw a razor blade at Crowbar, which he deflected directly into Sawbuck, warping them all even further into the past.

While Slick stuffed Crowbar in his WAR CHEST, Sawbuck tried to take the oportunity to escape, but Slick gives him a bit of the ol' bait and switchblade and warps them back to the present, where he then shoves Sawbuck and Stitch's corpse in the WRATHTUB before shoving THAT in his WAR CHEST. Slick then returned to his original timeline and opened the chest, where a not very happy Crowbar tried to shoot Slick, but he deflected the bullets into Sawbuck, warping them into the past, where the REAL Sawbuck was.

the original Sawbuck and Crowbar then tried shooting Slick at the same time, but he dodged them and they ended up pumping eachother full of lead, warping Slick and the alternate Sawbuck back to the present, Slick then decided to stab alt!Sawbuck with his double edged sword, transporting them to before he got into this temporal mess to begin with. While Slick struggled to come up with a good time-based one liner, alt!Sawbuck tried to pull out his gun, but Slick quickly stabs him with a knife before he's able to do so, bringing them both to the aftermath of Crowbar and Sawbuck's accidental gun fight.

Slick then decides to pull the lance out of alt!Sawbuck, time jumping them once again into the present, where he finally decides to simply knock alt!Sawbuck unconscious, Slick then tries to once again come up with an ice-cold one liner to kill him... but he forgets again, and so out of frustration he angrily decapitates both alt!Sawbuck, Crowbar and the original Sawbuck with one swing of his rapier wit while blurting out a simple "Hate to chop all of your heads off with this sword. Real sorry about that. My bad." finally ending that temporal clusterfuck he got himself in.[citation needed]

Act 6[]

Skills and abilities[]

Whenever Sawbuck takes physical damage, he and his attacker are both sent to the same random point in the current timeline[citation needed]; damage done by the removal of a weapon from his body also triggers the effectHS, though relatively non-damaging attacks, such as unconsciousness brought on by asphyxiation, do notHS.

Weapons and paraphernalia[]

Sawbuck employs a shotgun in ranged combat[citation needed], possibly referencing the ammunition sometimes used in shotguns referred to as "buck" shot, used for killing larger targets not unlike Sawbuck himself. In Collide he is also seen using a horse-riding crop as a melee weapon, referencing one alternate name for a sawbuck, sawhorse.[2]

  1. Akhilesh Ganti. "Sawbuck is a slang term with a couple of different money-related meanings. Historically, it has referred to a U.S. $10 bill, reportedly because two ornate Roman numeral Xs (resembling sawbucks) were present on the backside of the 10-dollar bill issued during the Civil War. Currently, the term is commonly used by interbank forex dealers to signify a transaction in the amount of $10 million U.S. dollars (USD)." Sawbuck Definition. September 1, 2021.
