While “humans just don't really have much use for slime”, slime is a substance all too familiar to the trolls of Alternia, seemingly including some of their own “secretions”. The most often seen form of slime on Alternia is sopor slime, though it is also frequently found in computers and other troll technology.

Sopor slime

Sopor slime is a “relaxing ooze [that] helps assuage the terrible visions of blood and carnage that plague the dark subconscious of [”Karkat Vantas“'] species” found within a troll's recuperacoon. While the origin of these terrible visions is not explicitly clear, the chucklevoodoo puppetry of the subjugglators, Gl'bgolyb's whispers of the race's future extinction, and more broadly the influence of the gods of the Furthest Ring on the dream bubbles are all likely factors.

Sopor slime also “does funny things to a troll's head” when eaten. Gamzee Makara, who lacked the guidance of a lusus to instruct him not to do so, bakes pies with a sopor slime filling, and Equius Zahhak considers such “soporific to%ins” to be a pollutant in his “precious b100d”. In Andrew Hussie's words, “sopor slime is just drugs”, and eating it is similar to the use or consumption of cannabis.

Later on, after a period without sopor slime, Gamzee begins to refer to it as “motherfuckin poison”, saying it “RUSTS YOUR MOTHERFUCKING THINK PAN”. This suggests that his earlier habit contributed to his unfavorable mental state later on. Hussie also comments that there is “probably some truth” to the idea that “his withdrawal from this drug is what unleashed his violent tendencies [...and...] that without the sedative influence of the slime, he's naturally inclined toward violence.” “”

In technology

Many computers on Alternia, such as Karkat's, have a very similar appearance to recuperacoons, complete with bright green slime seemingly being piped between pieces of technology with tubing. This is likely related to the slime that leaks from game grubs. Sollux's respiteblock is littered with miscellaneous pieces of technology made from the same substance as his cocoon and filled with green slime, and his personal computer is filled with red and blue slime much like his cocoon, further implying a similarity between the two substances. The apiculture network in Sollux's block, however, seems to use golden mind honey in place of the slime in most computers.

In Hiveswap Friendship Simulator (Dubiously Canon)

In Volume 3, Skylla Koriga recommends the player put sopor slime on their burns^{[citation needed]}, indicating it may have inflammation- and bacterial growth-reducing properties similar to aloe vera.
