Character templateEdit

Just wondering, but should we give Gamzee the player character template? After all, we did that for good ol' Karkat when he became playable, so it only seems fair. 20:50, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

That would be best, I think. The "Pesterchum Troll" template is probably on its way out with this act, especially since it's missing some important fields like fetch modus and guardian. Plus, what's the deal with the "victim(s)" field? Why do we even need that? Well, at any rate, yeah, the Homestuck Character template should have all the info we need. Majutsukai 00:39, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure about the Gamzee thing, but 'Makara' in Hindu mythology is the mount of Varuna, and is often described as a creature with the head of a land animal and body of an aquatic animal (sea-goat much?) - and according to The Other Wiki, "In astrology, it is the sign of Capricorn, one of the twelve symbols of the Zodiac." 02:10, June 29, 2010 (UTC) A random passerby.

I added a small sentense at the lusus section, as if "CALIGULASAQUARIUM" is not responsable it might be directly related to the death of Gamzee's lusus.

Can nobody find a source for the name Gamzee? Surely it has origins somewhere.

Wow, did this not get mentioned anywhere? Whoops. Anyway, he was named after a forum poster who had been using the name "terminallyCapricious"-- their real name was Gamze, and an extra E was added to the end to fit the six-letters guideline. So many people suggested the name that Andrew assumed it had some symbolic meaning he wasn't aware of, so he picked it. He didn't find out its actual origins until later. I don't usually post speculation, and I intend to delete this Talk Page content as soon as the discussion dies (if it ever starts), but I wanted to drop this somewhere: don't the wounds on Mysterious-Countdown-0:00-Evil-Gamzee's face look a lot like they were inflicted by Nepeta's clawkind? That would be hilarious in light of very recent Formspring ranting. --romancePhilologist 16:31, January 26, 2011 (UTC)

When Gamzee declared his murderous ambitions I worried that those scratches might come from Nepeta. I've been worried about her more than about the other trolls because of this (and also because she doesn't really play a big part...then again the "unimportant" trolls have been stealing the spotlight with mad stuff recently). HONK Do: BitterLime 17:29, January 26, 2011 (UTC)

I will exercise my necromantic powers to raise this little thread from its well deserved rest to possibly start another discussion regarding THE CRITICAL MOMENT. How much of Gamzee's murderous rampage could be attributed to his conversation with Dave and how much was Scratch's manipulation? Stuff to consider:

  • The obvious first clue is the fact that Gamzee reported to Doc that "it's all been (...) done (...)" which suggests some of his actions were ordered by him. It also suggests the two of them did talk before, though the pesterlogs have not (yet?) been shown in the comic.
  • Gamzee claimed it was Cal who told him to kill everyone. It could be only his psychosis talking, but Cal/Doc connection is pretty strong, especially given his felt suit. Otherwise Gamzee seemed pretty coherent after killing Equius and Napeta even before Karkat's intervention. It could be a swift kick to the yarbles that worked its magic.
  • Both Equius and Napeta did provoke him. Equius refused to kneel instantly on his command -- which is actually a crime as we've learned from Vriska's pesterlogs. Napeta attacked him.

It all boils down to one question: was Gamzee really going to murder everyone? Did he have any plans at all?

He seemed to have settled a little bit after killing two and seemed to just enjoy his own private "corpse party" with heads he collected from around the installation. He actually worked towards everyone meeting on the rooftop and I am not even sure he planned anything beyond that.

(Also: it seems that the "Oh shit Neppeta is dead." someone added without putting their signature is messing up a layout a bit. Preview shows my edit will not go on the bottom of this paragraph. I don't know how to fix this without deleting the above -- which is actually below in the preview. Huh.) Matpmar 10:29, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

The scratches coming from Nepeta is pretty common speculation, so it can be added to the page. Though if she does fight him, her chances of surviving the encounter are... not good. ~OctachorEnglishOn 19:01, January 26, 2011 (UTC)

Role Edit

I'm wondering why Gamzee (And Eridan, but nobody gives a damn about him) is still counted as a Protagonist/Ally. If completely flipping out and killing two trolls is not enought to make him an antagonist I have no clue what is. 05:03, June 3, 2011 (UTC)

his quirk Edit

Hussie said the change between the alternating caps including spaces, and the alternating caps without was just a mistake/laziness/poor memory on his part. His eyes. Didn't his dream self die? And if it was a alternate self it would be white too. And lastly (but somewhat more explainable) Gamzee seems stoned again but this probably is just the effect of the shoosh paps. Chezrush 16:17, April 16, 2012 (UTC)

I'm sure it did die, as I don't recall it leaving Prospit, therefore it was obilterated when BN blew the planet up. experimentalDeity 16:43, April 16, 2012 (UTC)

His eyes aren't odd, alternate selves have normal eyes, its dead selves that have white eyes and alternate selves have a nasty habit of dying. So if it is an alternate Gamzee it is one that has avoided death. However he has the scars from when Nepeta scratched him and that was long after Jack blew up Prospit. Maybe he isn't god tier maybe one of his alternate selves gave him the Captchalogue code for his god tier outfit (if that can even be done) and he alchemised one up himself? Well, the only time their wings have disappeared is when their outfit also disappears, but I guess that might not have to be the case. I suppose there's no way to know for sure unless we encounter a god tier troll that keeps the outfit and not the wings. Jimcloud 18:11, April 16, 2012 (UTC)
Actually we have seen a Karkat with a god tier outfit but no wings. I am pretty sure he is "our" Gamzee, after arriving in the new session he went back to before he arrived to act as Janes guide, since her sprite may potentially be useless now? (I guess it is still possible for her to prototype it now, but who knows). Maybe all 4 remaining trolls will do soemthing like this, to help the B2 kids prepare for the arrival of the B1 kids and to put them in the know. The real question is when Gamzee became god tier. He either ascended before prospit was destroyed and hid it very well from everyone, or there is yet another way to turn god tier. Or alternatively he is just "dressed up" and didn't really ascend, you never know. Thinking about it his scars are the weirdest part...if he ascended after receiving them, they should have healed during his ascension, so I guess it's more likely he was already a god when he got the scratch marks?bitterLime 20:01, April 16, 2012 (UTC)

We never actually saw Gamezee on Prospit, and most of the time he was alone on his planet. We don't know that he didn't ascend. It's possible that he ascended and is wearing the "fake" suit for his own mirthful reasons. The best argument that he didn't ascend is that Hussie said "[he wasn't] aware of a single timeline where this asshole [Gamzee] dies," and as far as we know dying is a prerequisite for becoming god tier. However, Hussie-the-character is not an entirely reliable narrator, and it's possible that he was speaking of god tier Gamzee as the one who never dies or that there's some alternative method for achieving god tier. Bottom line: we really don't know for sure yet whether Gamzee is canonically god tier or not.Ptorq (talk) 22:56, October 19, 2013 (UTC)

Symbolic Manner god tier WITH his wings Edit

Pretty sure bitterLime made it. Anyways, it looks great, but Aepokk is right, we can't use it unless it is canon. --Chezrush {Talk} 01:28, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
That's a good point. But what about the sketch that Hussie made of Gamzee's god tier quite a while back? Wouldn't that be canon? Or technically not, since it hasn't quite appeared in the story yet (or rather, the wings from it)? So I guess either way, the sprite still doesn't cut it. MistPower101 (talk) 02:38, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
That counted due to Andrew making it. Sketches by the author usually are canon. BTW where did you find the pic? Chezrush {Talk} 03:04, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
Ah, okay. I found the pic somewhere on tumblr. (Reeeal helpful, I know.. ^^;;;) It came up after doing a google search for god tier Gamzee cosplays. You may be able to find it via a Gamzee tag search? Although that will bring up a lot of stuff. :/ I'll eventually look for the source. MistPower101 (talk) 04:52, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
EDIT: I found the source of the picture. shadowedAngel on the MSPA forums. MistPower101 (talk) 19:40, August 3, 2012 (UTC)

Well, god tier Gamzee with wings is canon now, but the wings appear to be fake (no slits for wings) in the latest update. Then again, this implies his whole outfit might be a fake as well. If his questionable god tier outfit is shown on this wiki, then I believe that the wings should be shown as well.ChibiSeme597 (talk) 19:09, November 18, 2012 (UTC)

Just want to point out that this is not my handiwork, because earlier someone suggested it might have been made by me. It looks good, but usually we avoid using fan edits, exceptions are cases where it's 100% based on canon sources (for example Vriska's god tier outfit having Terezi's boots, because we never saw her's in sprite mode). Other exceptions can be made when people feel it's kinda vital to include a certain outfit that does not exist as a sprite yet. But I don't feel ike Gamzee's wings are vital, we have the canon sprite for his "god tier" outfit without wings, and imo that's good enough. And about things being "questionable", Gamzee's outfit is questionable in that it might not be the proper god tier outfit he might have upon ascension, but it is unquestionably canon because it appeared in the comic. So worst case is that "god tier" is kind of a misnomer. But the sprite with the wings is a different kind of questionable, because we do not know how exactly Hussie would draw them in sprite mode. But yeah, the picture above is a good guess and I personally I would have no problem using it, but professionally speaking we should avoid using it if we have canon alternatives. And wingless Gamzee seems like a good enough alternative. Okay I am rambling, I'll stop now.bitterLime 20:24, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

gamzee/gämse connection? Edit

Hi, i don't know if i am even allowed to write something here, but i'll just take the risk.

I have a short question about gamzee, who i always connected to a goat (german gämse or gams):

The name seemed to be similar, just as the shape of the horns but that might just be me, dunno.

I don't know about any canonical connections between the two, maybe someone, who is more of an insider than me, knows something about the goats and gamzee.

i'll just leave that here and, yanno, go. 02:45, November 6, 2013 (UTC) sera (Am i doing it right?)

No, you're right, Gamzee is very heavily connected to goats. They're intentionally goat horns, and Capricorn's symbol is a sea goat, which is also his lusus. Also goats are considered a satanic symbol by many. Aepokk Venset 05:14, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

"Mother Fucker" Edit

So, slightly interesting thing that hit me all of the sudden. So, we all know by know of Gamzee's love for the use of the phrase "mother fucker". I'm sure it might just be something that Andrew used without thinking about too deeply, but I got to thinking about the connotations of this. In troll culture the only context they would use the word "mother" in would be the Mother Grub. So Gamzee is using a phrase which can be read as "someone who fucks the mother grub". I'm not sure if the liberal use of mother fucker is a religious thing or just a Gamzee thing, but if it's a religious thing then I think it offers some insight into said religion's values, in some strange, roundabout way that is sort of difficult to put into words somehow. Idk, am I being confusing?Impartial0bserver (talk) 11:51, November 9, 2013 (UTC)

Nah not confusing, that makes sense. I wondered why he always said that since they all share a mother and I don't think Huss use that phrase without realizing what it could mean. ___ƒelinoel__Hope Outline_ 20:42, November 9, 2013 (UTC)

Immune to blood loss?Edit

With him being constantly aroused, wounded, and usually very very angry, how has Gamzee not bled to death? We aren't sure if he is god tier and even if he was that cant be the reason because we would have seen him ressurect. The3rdplayer (talk) 20:51, December 8, 2013 (UTC)

Exactly. The implication is that he isn't god tier (though you never know with that capricious bastard), especially since his fake wings fell off when Caliborn shot him. And for the record, he isn't always aroused. It's a codpiece, e.g. crotch armor that's made in that shape. Hussie once made a remark about it, I think. Hopefully his ridiculous immortality (as explained by Hussie to Caliborn in the conversation right after he gunned him down) will actually be given an explanation. Aepokk Venset 23:26, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
Seems like hes some how gone beyond the need for both blood and air. Seeing as he doesn't die from blood loss and slept withing a fridge with no problem what so ever. Possibly reflective of his moving on from Karkat and Tavros (whom had aspects of blood and breath respectively). The3rdplayer (talk) 23:35, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
@Aepokk I am aware he was declared unkillable but even if thats the case he would probably pass out due to massive blood loss unless theres some weird troll thing that prevents that. And the same applies to air as well. The3rdplayer (talk) 23:42, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
I see your point, it's the same kinda logic Kanaya lampshaded by pointing out that even though she was undead and "immortal", she can still technically effectively die in a number of ways. Nice symbolism catch with the aspects, by the way. To be fair, we don't know how long he was in that refrigerator. And with the music box time machines in his possession there are many possibilities there. I was about to say we also don't know how long trolls can survive without air, but then I remembered how Equius died so nevermind. As for the blood loss, yes. But I think that's kind of the point, that his immortality should be frustrating and defy all logic. Gamzee is kind of a joke character. He started that way, and after he snapped his continued existence and lack of any karmic repurcussions became the joke. The more the fandom hates him, the longer he stays alive, the more successful the joke is. Aepokk Venset 01:46, December 9, 2013 (UTC)
I see your point about the fridge thing but given that Equius died rather quickly and it was long enough for Gamzee to fall asleep he should have at least been unconscious. Aranea would need to have arrived mere seconds after him falling asleep for him to be conscious. Also when did he get the time machines? The3rdplayer (talk) 03:15, December 9, 2013 (UTC)
Honestly? I don't know. Aradia probably left them in one of the several chests around the meteor that the trolls store their personal belongings in, likely because she no longer needed them after ascending. So Gamzee probably just picked them up at some indiscriminate point along the meteor ride. For the record, I agree with you about the fridge. That's what I was trying to say when I said "Wait Equius nvm."
Man, I don't even know how or when Gamzee got in there. His whole timeline in A2 is just... eugh. Who even knows with him half the time. Aepokk Venset 07:11, December 9, 2013 (UTC)

References... Edit

I'm currently looking for the quote of Gamzee saying he will stop eating sophor pies (as stated in the first paragraph of the "Personality and Traits") subsection, and the lack of references is a little problematic. Maybe increasing the number of references in this article could be of help to others who, like me, are trying to research the character.

My apologies if I'm going at this in entirely the wrong way. 21:47, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

No you're right, we really should add more page links and made it a "goal" a while ago, we just should have followed through more... Aepokk Venset 04:49, March 8, 2014 (UTC)

Vandalism Edit

Has anyone seen the Gamzee Makara page recently?! It has been completely replaced with ":o)"! I can't fix the whole thing by myself, but I can try to start... Kellyken1001 (talk) 01:24, July 11, 2014 (UTC)Kellyken1001

Whoa. Wonder how we missed that. If this happens in the future, go add ?action=history to the end of the url, then you can edit the version before the vandalism so everything's ship-shape again. YlimegirlHero of Hope – 01:31, July 11, 2014 (UTC)
There is no need to report vandalism here, if someone is on who will see the report and know what to do they should see the vandalism themselves. - The Light6 (talk) 01:44, July 11, 2014 (UTC)

confirmation that gamzee did indeed die Edit

is there any?! Cookiefonster (talk) 14:49, December 16, 2014 (UTC)

Nah, all we've got his him being chainsawed in half double-time, in what is probably an alternate timeline. Unfortunately. YlimegirlHero of Hope – 16:10, December 16, 2014 (UTC)
We'll have towait to see a ghost. Which... given the carnival, could be soon. Aepokk ulpex 02:14, December 17, 2014 (UTC)
actually that does seem likely, it could be that he created the dark carnival that Meenah and Vriska now find themselves in... the dark place that kurloz went to deliver the cod piece, it was never explained, perhaps gamzee has the ability to manipulate dream bubbles Whohoohuwhu (talk) 18:29, December 17, 2014 (UTC)
It was already confirmed that Kurloz himself made a number of secret locations throughout the dream bubbles as meetup spots, I'm not sure much explanation was needed beyond that... Anyway yeah, I'm fairly certain this is Kurloz's bubble. Aepokk ulpex 18:58, December 17, 2014 (UTC)
I seem to have missed that... but if Gamzee is dead, this seems like a likely place for him to show up as a ghost. Whohoohuwhu (talk) 19:21, December 17, 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, regardless of who's responsible for the bubble, either one of them is likely to show up here. And for the record, this detail about Kurloz was addressed during Openbound, when he meets up with Gamzee. Aepokk ulpex 23:11, December 18, 2014 (UTC)

Trivia factEdit

The fact about the purple, is that also appliable to Eridan? I mean, he is also royalty and wanted also to kill of lowbloods.

P.S: Does this belong on Eridans talkpage? Then, feel free to remove it to there.NepetaLeijon27 (talk) 14:44, December 23, 2014 (UTC)
