Trace is the third member of the Felt.
Concept and creation[]
Trace's hat is designed after the red billiard ball numbered 3, and his name phonetically resembles tres, the name for the number in Spanish and similar languages. It also describes his ability to 'trace' where people have been in the past, which is similar to the ability of a shark to follow small traces of blood, particularly in pop culture. Because of this, and perhaps as a reference to the concept of a pool shark, Trace, like Fin, bears a resemblance to a shark, with sharp teeth jutting from his mouth and the collar on his suit evoking a shark's fin.
Biography[]
Caliborn's session[]
Intermission - original timeline[]
Trace has invaded the Midnight Crew's secret hideout multiple times.
Trace uses his abilities to harass Diamonds Droog from the future, revealing his future location. Trace then follows Clubs Deuce's trail through the mansion, finding Doze tied up in the hall. However, under Diamonds' directions, Clubs had left a bomb in Doze's hat. The resulting explosion kills both Doze and Trace.
Act 6[]
Skills and abilities[]
Trace can see and interact with people's past trails, and is even able to hear past conversations through them; he forms a pair with Fin, who instead has the ability to interact with future trails.
If Trace is caught interacting with someone in the past, however, that may alert them to where he will be at some point in the future. As it is possible for others to interact with Fin from the future while he is following their future trails,[citation needed] it is possible the same is true of those whose past trails Trace is following.
The past trails Trace follows bear a notable resemblance to the future trails from the 2001 film Donnie Darko, and Andrew Hussie has suggested that he was inspired by the film.[citation needed]
Weapons and paraphernalia[]
As seen in Collide, Trace has one weapon; a Chiappa Triple (3) Barrel shotgun which he uses both as a long ranged firearm and as a club in close quarters combat.[1]
