Troll Call

The completed Troll Call tracker as of March 24th, 2018.

The Troll Call was a weekly event whereby a new pair of trolls set to appear in Hiveswap: Act 2 were revealed each week, around 20:00 CET each Wednesday on the now-defunct What Pumpkin Studios tumblr blog, with a dedicated tracker on hiveswap.com. Though this was likely intended to build up toward the planned Spring 2018 release of Act 2, the game was instead delayed to 2020, and instead the Troll Call was followed by the dubiously-canonical Hiveswap Friendship Simulator, starring the characters from the Call.

Upon the eventual release of Act 2, not every character revealed in the Troll Call made it into the final product; though there is evidence of Zebede Tongva and Charun Krojib in development and promotional screenshots, neither is present in the finished version.

History

The initial state of the Troll Call tracker, as of November 11th, 2017, with every character in silhouette save for the first two revealed.

Troll Call debuted on November 11, 2017, with the reveal of Zebede Tongva and Tyzias Entykk. The tracker initially consisted of an spread of 36 "troll cards", depicting each Troll Call troll in silhouette. Cards were filled in with detail weekly as trolls were revealed. Misleadingly, the 36 silhouettes represented 38 individual trolls revealed in total, with Barzum and Baizli Soleil and Folykl Darane and Kuprum Maxlol forming pairs with a single silhouette.

The last two trolls, Lanque Bombyx and Remele Namaaq, were revealed on March 14th, 2018, exactly 6 months after the release of Hiveswap: Act 1 (September 14th, 2017). Although this marked the end of the Troll Call, What Pumpkin hinted that the event may return in future, and that readers should "wait and sea", implying the future introduction of sea dweller characters, which were absent from the first Call.

Almost every troll's card came with three bullet points summarising their characters in a humorous and succinct way. As of the collaborative effort of writing the Hiveswap Friendsim, many of these bullet points did not accurately reflect the characters' personalities; on on December 6, 2018, the tracker was graphically revamped and almost every troll had at least some of their bullet points changed. This update also revealed the signs of Ardata Carmia and Marvus Xoloto, whose signs had been obscured upon their Troll Call debut.
